History of Las Vegas
Las Vegas, Nevada was given its name by the Spaniards in the early 1800's and officially became a city in 1911.After the commencement of the construction of the Boulder Dam in 1931 Las Vegas' population grew from 5,000 to 25,000. The dam was completed in 1935.
With gambling legalized in 1931, the city issued the first gaming licence in 1931 and soon after other casinos were licensed on Fremont Street strip.
Many years later (1946) The Flamingo was built by organized crime figures Bugsy Siegel and Meyer Lansky amongst others.
